GEOGRAPHY

Location

Panama is located in Central America and has the absolute location of 9°N and 81°W. It has a boundary between the two countries Costa Rica and Colombia and has the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans bordering on either side. Due to Panama's location, it is an important place for trade and commerce. It is also an important spot for travelers and ships to access both the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.

Landforms

Panama is known for its diverse and unique landforms, which include mountains, beaches, rivers, and forests.

One of the most prominent is the manmade Panama Canal. It is considered one of the wonders of the world, as it allows ships to traverse through the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. It plays an important part in Panama's economy, as it makes up one third of it.

Other important landforms include the Cordillera de Talamanca, a wide reaching mountain range that extends from Panama to Costa Rica, more than hundreds of archipelagos full with brimming flora and fauna, a rainforest in the capital city (only country in the world to have one in their capital city), and several rivers like the Chagres River which is the main water source for the Panama Canal.

Region

Panama can be divided into different regions, including the highlands, the Pacific, and the Caribbean regions.

The highlands region is located in the central part of the country. It is known for its landscapes, tourism, and agriculture. It contains the Cordillera de Talamanca mountain range, which has many different protected areas and national parks.

The Pacific region is located in the western side of the country. It is known for the Panama Canal, beaches and forests. It is also an important tourism area.

The final region is the Caribbean regoin, located on the eastern side. It is known for its rich cultural heritage and biodiversity. It is home to a lot of indigenous communities. It is also known for being an important center of trade and commerce. It contains the port of Colon, one of the most busiest ports in Central America.
