ISSUES

One major issue in Panama is poverty and discrimination. Despite the great growth of the economy and infrastructure, a large amount of the population still remains in poverty. There are also significant inequalities in wealth and chances and oppourtunities between different regions and social groups. This applies to the indigenous territories and Afro-Caribbean populations.

Another big issues is corruption in the government. Panama has a long history of corrupt governmet leaders. This has added to the lack of trust in public institutions and inhibiteted efforts to address other issues that Panama has.

The environment in Panama also is an issue, because it is suffering from deforestation and environmental degradation, despite being a place with a variety of plant and animal species. This is due to the expansion of agriculture and manufacturing. Climate change is also a big threat to Panama's natural resources.
